Telecommunications company enters Caribbean market
Telecommunications company, 21st Century Telecoms is moving to set
up in the Caribbean and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
with Nevis authorities to start up its regional operations in that
island.
Premier Joseph Parry, who signed the document along with 21st
Century Telecoms Chief Executive Officer, Alec Saini, said the company
will begin in temporary headquarters here. "The company will be setting up across the Caribbean and hopes to
start operations here within the next two to three months," he said. "We have reached a stage where Mr. Saini will start in temporary
headquarters. He will purchase a bit of land and establish his
headquarters with a conference centre, and accommodation for his people
"said. Mr Parry said 21st Century Telecoms (Caribbean) said all the
technical expertise required for the startup of the project is not
available in St. Kitts and Nevis and the company would be forced to
import skilled personnel for the initial stage. He however assured that
the new company will employ many Nevisians and Kittitians. Mr Saini said he intends to establish a state of the art facility
that would become the third major operator of telecommunication
services in the Caribbean. He said the objective would be to create a Pan-Caribbean wide mobile
telecommunications and internet communications company in the Caribbean
which would be beneficial to the people. Mr Saini revealed that the company has plans to expand operations
into St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Grenada,
Barbados and Antigua.
