St. Kits has focused on agriculture
The government of St. Kitts and Nevis says it is stepping up a land distribution programme to encourage more people into food
production.
An official release said cabinet, at its meeting on Monday, authorised the distribution of 70 acres of state lands to small
farmers in St Kitts.
The growing cost of imported food has forced Caribbean nations to rethink their agricultural polices.
Meanwhile
in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the opposition leader Arnhim Eustace
has called for a greater push toward agricultural diversification. He wants the authorities to use their experience of bananas to try to secure export markets for other produce in Europe. Mr Eustace said St Vincent may have to link up with neighbouring countries in pushing exports other than bananas.
